Oxygen flask determination of Iodine in organic & inorganic compounds
The oxygen flask method for the determination of Iodine in organic and inorganic compounds
consists of a combustion procedure followed by a titrimetric determination. Combustion of the
sample in oxygen yields water-soluble inorganic products. After combustion an excess of Bromine
in Acetic Acid is added to convert Iodine to Iodate. Formic Acid is added to destroy the excess
Bromine. The solution is acidified with dilute sulphuric acid and an excess of potassium Iodide
added. The liberated Iodine is titrated with Sodium Thiosulphate....
